When did you start tattooing?
2008
Do you have any special training?
I havent had any formal training in art, but try to teach myself, and pick up anything i can from anyone i can!
Tell us about the style of your work?
photo realistic
What conventions do you usually work?
i have only worked a few conventions so far in my career, being Surf and Ink on the Gold Coast for the past two years, and the Rites of Passage 2012. both were great, but i think Melbourne has a bigger scene in tattooing, thus producing more interest in such things like conventions.
Where did you apprentice?
i apprenticed at Coolum Tattoo on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, under Neil Braithwaite.
he was a great teacher, as well as me being a sponge of information.
How did you get into tattooing?
i never planned on being a tattoo artist, but my tattooist at the time Neil was looking for a new apprentice, and happen to offer me the spot, i jumped at the chance, as art had always consumed my spare time anyway.
What inspires you as an artist?
i am inspired by so many things, there are so many people out there doing amazing work, inside and outside the tattoo community...
but i do love a lot of classic fine artists like Caravaggio and Rembrandt, and contemporary artists like Kevin Llwellyn and Michael Hussar.
What tattoo artist do you most admire?
i have a huge list of artist i admire, or look up to. it is extemely difficult to pick just one.
the likes of Dmitriy Samohin, Jeff Gogue, Jason Butcher, Nikko Hurtado, Carlos Torres, Andy Swarbrick, Teniele Napoli, Byron Dreschler and so so many more!!!
Before someone gets a tattoo, what advice do you give them?
I do like to inquire on the motives behind some tattoos people choose to get, but in most cases its a personal thing, one concept can mean a lot to one person, where it may not mean anyhting to the next.
Is there anyone that you would like to tattoo?
i dont think there is anyone in particular i would like to tattoo over anyone else, lets say really fair skinned people with high pain thresholds? haha
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing?
I really find myself enjoying portraits, color and greywash.
but i do like the odd illustrative custom style design.
i used to do a lot more of that, but these days im trying to focusing on specialising in portraiture work.
Is there a tattoo that you haven't done yet that you are dying to do?
i really want to do a portrait of Steve Buscemi!
i like intersting faces with a lot of character, there so much fun to tattoo.
